I agree Gib, but in our congress there is a stark difference in parties and they tend to be conservative and liberal. period. When these congressmen or women are introduced on Tv programs the conservatives generally will say they are conservative, but the liberals will say they are moderates-lol.

I was classifying them based on my own knowledge of how they vote. Votes in our congress very often go right down party lines just like our supreme court. And the conservative issues will be categorically supportedd by conservatives and vice versus. The only times where liberals deviate is when their political life is at stake. conservatives seldom need to deviate. Liberals tend to be more out of step with our citizens than conservatives. So they have to hide their votes like the Iraq war, flag burning and gay rights. Few liberals would have voted for the Iraq war if they had had their druthers.

Or flag flag burning or gay rights. Which is why the right introduces them to weaken the liberals politically. If liberals and conservatives could vote on those issues privately they would pretty much go down party lines. Very little middle ground in this country.

And I knew the Gitmo vote, FOR SURE, before I was told! to the person.

And I agree there is as much group think among liberals as among conservatives. But I will tell you, liberals are more comfortable with shades of grey than conservatives.

Conservatives tend to like black and white. Our congress can do almost nothing it is so deadlocked because of political inclinations. Conservatives go conservative to moderate and dems moderate to liberal. Two distinct populations with almost no overlap!
