Korea, China Agree to Raise Wireless Tech Venture Fund

The Ministry of Information and Communication announced yesterday it has signed a letter of intent to raise a $300 million venture fund for wireless technology development with a government-owned company in Shanghai.

Spelling out the first venture fund between the two countries, both sides also have discussed ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of information technology.

The Shanghai provincial government hoped Korean companies would build joint ventures with Chinese firms in the wake of the raising of the venture fund for wireless technology.

Both sides also agreed to hold mobile communication exhibitions, under the joint auspices of the Shanghai provincial government and the Korean ministry, early next month.

The ministry said around 200 companies _ including mobile handsets, personal digital assistant and high-speed Internet equipment companies from two countries _ will join the trade show.
