Jack:

1. It comes down to cable modems vs xDSL. Both will have have a place, and you are obviously in the cable camp. Both are currently deployed in trials. My point is the telcos are bankrolling xDSL.
Given the perceived quality of service cable companies offer, and the perceived QOS the the baby bells offer, I think the average consumer would rather buy internet from the phone company then their cable company.

2. Don't insult me by saying I don't know the difference between ISDN & Caller ID. The people that have been here for over a year are quite aware of my technical qualifications.

>>I am aware of only one product being produced and sold now that attempts to mux POTS lines ...

I never wrote that the new products were being shipped, I said the telcos were gearing up for them.

>>What does become important is a common directory service standard that is robust and scalable, because the network is not going to be a WAN, but a really BIG ASS WAN. xDSL or not.

Well, yes, this is relatively important. My position is that NOVL isn't going to be the provider of such a beast, simply because they are now a niche player. IBM/NSCP/MSFT/SUN and others are certainly closer to the LDAP camp than NDS.
