Some part availability minutia...Probably Apple's fault, but who knows...

Taxed brackets Alas, not everyone had such a formative opportunity to learn the rewards of a deadline promptly met, at least judging from recent dealer reports of delays to the Power Mac 8600. Disconsolate resellers say Apple has released only a trickle of the new machines, blaming the slowdown on a QA issue.

"What QA issue would that be, Knife?" the astute reader may well ask. In fact, the retail-channel monkey wrench rivals the 1988 Dukakis campaign for sheer triviality: Sources say delivery of 8600 Macs has been hobbled by Cupertino's inability to locate mounting brackets for their built-in Zip drives. Holy minutiae, Dr. Gil! The Knife trusts spare brackets will be found and the machines will ship soon - unless, of course, Apple runs out of bubble wrap or packing tape first.
