On competitors – important to pay attention to competitors, but more important to pay attention to the demand that you are seeing, listening to customers’ expectations, and responding to their needs
On DIGX rumor - Ellen said that we are interested in acquisitions, we have indicated that we are interested in acquiring a hosting company, and that if the asset was available for the right price, we would have some interest
On acquisition motives – to drive the growth in other areas
Core business is very healthy. Our concern is that we do not have enough datacenters.
On Overbuild – Analyst estimate that we will not be in overbuild until 2002. At that time, we will need to have an extensive portfolio of services
On Dot.com shakeout – Modest impact. Churn in last quarter lowest, churn = 1.6% for year.
Sustainable growth – strong growth rate 2.42M last year, 8M this year, and similar rates going into 2001.
On opportunity - Biggest opportunity is managing core business, making sure we do not give up business by not having the right datacenters in the right cities. Then, to protect ourselves going forward, and to be more responsive to customers needs, managed services is the answer. In 2002, if we find we have too many datacenters, we will need a strong portfolio of managed services, because that would be then what we would be primarily selling.
On who we are worried about – I worry about global crossing; I worry about ourselves. Every one of our employees has to focus on that customer, and make sure that that web site stays up, and that we are giving them the service that they need.
On how this experience is different than Apple and IBM - This is Accelerated growth. This is growth that is faster than anything I’ve ever seen.
What she has taken from Apple and IBM experience - At IBM, she gained a strong sense of Management, and at Apple she learned to make decisions quickly, sometimes without information."
