>>A Republican would have addressed the issue without eliminating the death penalty. These fanatical anti-death penalty democrats will do what it takes to stop the practice.<<

This piece is hyped and entirely out of context. There has been a controversy for years--since testing for DNA first became available--regarding whether DNA testing should be available for old, closed cases. Virginia has resisted that. There are those who want to do DNA tests and reconsider ALL convictions that depended on evidence that could be refuted by DNA testing.

All that's being talked about here is checking to see if someone executed really was guilty. What might ensue from that is, if we're not going to double-check all convictions, at least double-check via DNA just to be sure before putting someone to death. That's seems pretty simple and pretty reasonable to me.

It meets the author's criteria of "addressing the issue without eliminating the death penalty.

This would keep the Beltway Snipers from being executed

It has nothing to do with the Beltway Shooters. DNA testing was available at the time of that trial and probably didn't haveanything to do with the conviction anyway.
