MIDDAY REPORT:

U.S. TRADING SUMMARY: Wall Street stocks were back on the roller
coaster Friday, hammered for the second day running as the dollar
resumed its slide and technology stocks raced south. The morning's
tumble was widely expected, well flagged by the greenback's slide,
falls overnight in overseas stock exchanges, spluttering bonds and
a tumble in the S&P index. The Dow fell sharply by some 120 points
after the opening to a low of 7766 points, easing back slightly by
mid-morning only to revisit the day's lows just after midday when
the index was off 159 points at 7738. The Nasdaq reeled from the
onslaught on technology stocks and was down 29 points at 1579. The
long bond was down 20/32 to yield 6.67 percent, while the S&P 500
index tumbled to 907 points, off 18 on the day. Declines trounced
advances, 23 to 5, on the Big Board, as 281 million shares traded
hands.
