It's not Mohammed's word. It's there for eternity the way it is. There's no possibility of adapting it or interpreting it, whereas in Christianity, and Judaism, the dynamism's completely different, that God has worked through His creatures

That's slightly ironic coming from the Pope, since for centuries the intra-Christian fight was on which creatures had a right to be interpreting the word - the annointed priesthood only (the Catholic position) or every Christian for himself (the Protestant position)?

It also doesn't answer a major question about Islam: if the words of the Koran and Hadith and not adaptable, how is it that Islam has held such different views at different times in the past and even now? For Islam is far from monolithic.
