That article describes the software originally obtained from CompCore. I do not believe they are at pure software video decode any more. This must be the case for their non-PC based systems ... they apparently have a video DSP in addition to their previously marketed audio DSP core, both integrated on a single chip. They can make the claim of 25% free DSP time because that core only does audio, not video, and therefore does not get full during video bursts. Its hard to say if it is bandwidth limited when video demands peak.

So, I would say we don't know much about this new offering. I really don't think it is a pure software video decode. They obviously have some dedicated video core in addition to their old audio core. (Unless you think they have a Pentium 200 Mhz MMX sitting in that single chip for non-PC based DVD :)

This would also jive with information that had been circulating on Zoran working on hardware-accelerated video. They've been working on the video core for quite some time. The CompCore software stuff just allows them to run the spectrum from software-only solutions to hardware-assisted solutions. Like you, I am very interested in hearing tech specs, e.g. the frame rate and how they are doing the MPEG-2 decode exactly.
