Orange Tests its French 3G Network in Paris
UK Cellular News October 1, 2001
Orange and Alcatel have conducted their first Voice, Data and Video communications on the Orange France 3G network. During an official demonstration of the network, Didier Quillot, executive vice president of Orange, and Michel Rahier, president of Alcatel's Mobile Networks activities - in the presence of Hiroaki Takeichi, member of the board of Fujitsu Ltd and Evolium SAS, and several representatives of the Orange group and of Alcatel - had the opportunity to communicate through 3G mobile systems, and access information, image and video online (aren't they the lucky ones).
The radio systems which include the UMTS base stations (Node B) supplied by Alcatel were developed and produced by Evolium SAS, the joint venture between Alcatel and Fujitsu. Didier Quillot, said: "Field trials are the key to success. Respecting the delivery calendar of the experimental and pre-commercial systems by Alcatel, allows us to foresee the technical opening of the UMTS network by the end of 2002."
