Repairs equal the value of the car, but I have no choice but to do them. I can't spring for a new car.

It's the devil you know.

Went through the same thing 16 or so months ago when the engine went on my Suburban. It'w essentially worthless without a working engine. So, do I walk away from a car worth maybe $8,000 or put $5,000 into a rebuild?

I kept the car. Since it had a rebuilt tranny just before I bought it, and now a rebuilt engine, I expect it to last quite a few miles.
