I didn't know that, but it sounds familiar.

Actually covering arch sites is one way to protect them. That way, only the archeologists know where they are. Isn't that the epitome of hubris? Some modern project unearths a previously unknown artifact, and the archs bury the site, figuratively and literally.

There is a lot of agitation about Kennewick Man among the Native Americans because they claim he belongs to them (and if not, don't want anybody studying him and usurping their first people status).
