wanna,
While I do not agree with Dan's financial "analysis" of Intel, esp. concerning their efficiency, I do not believe that one needs to "over-analyze" the cost structures over a 5 year period either.
Additionally, 5 yrs in technology is several generations, therefore the earliest of "costs" are moot.
On the other hand, there are "efficiency" ratios, which are "quick" and "easy" to calculate, can be utilized to give someone an idea as to the manufacturing efficiencies of the companies.
However, from approximately 5 minutes of work, I showed that Intel utilizes its fixed assets more efficiently than AMD. That, in no way means that Intel is utilizing its fixed assets efficiently; all it means is that Intel's fixed assets are being more efficiently utilized when compared to AMD.
Comment, an even better comparison of Intel's manufacturing efficiency would be to compare Intel, AMD, etc. to other Semiconductor Manufacturers, especially UMC and TSMC. That could give someone a decent idea as how efficient all are. |
