Hitachi, Toshiba Sample 512-Mbit Flash Devices

Hitachi Ltd. and Toshiba Corp. have each introduced 512-Mbit flash devices, with twice the density of their respective highest-density flash devices. The 512-Mbit milestone was made possible by moves to smaller process geometries and advanced storage cell techniques. The parts are intended for use in flash storage cards.

Toshiba's NAND-type memory uses a 0.16-micron process technology jointly developed with U.S. partner SanDisk.

Hitachi (stock: HIT), meanwhile, leveraged its 0.18-micron process technology together with a multilevel-cell storage technology.

You can see that SanDisk has a hand in bringing 512Mbit technology to the consumer both because of its close ties with Toshiba and the recent renewed cross-licensing with Hitachi that now covers MLC. I think the article you posted also substantiates the step forward that FlashVision will take once MLC is integrated into their joint solution.
