Dell May Need to Replace Chips
In 400,000 Notebook Computers

By GARY MCWILLIAMS
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

Dell Computer Corp. said it might have to replace defective memory chips
in as many as 400,000 notebook personal computers sold last year.

Dell, Round Rock, Texas, declined to identify the supplier of the chips, but
Micron Technology Inc. confirmed it was the manufacturer. Micron said it
intends to provide replacements for the 32-megabyte and 64-megabyte
parts but hasn't yet determined the cost.

"We don't anticipate a significant financial
impact," said a spokeswoman for the Boise,
Idaho, chip maker.
