"AMD mobile chips are socket-A, right?"

Some are, some aren't. Even if they are sampling the Socket A chips, how would that enthusiast get them? Steal them? You cannot buy them unless you are an OEM.

"AMD has never been good at well kept secrets (and neither has Intel)"

AMD is quite good at keeping secrets when they want to. For example, you would have thought some information would have leaked about Tbird details well before it shipped. But all we knew until the final week was it had onchip cache. There were performance figures on the P4 all over the net months before it shipped. But nothing on the AMD chips.
