Eric, Bill was talking about self-driving vehicles, not EVs in general.

His concerns about self-driving vehicles is valid. They really need to be 100% reliable. Not 99%. Not 99.9%.

Even if they are 99.999% reliable, they also need to not become death traps during the 0.001% of the cases that they can't handle.

That's why Waymo has a huge leg up against Robotaxi right now. They probably achieved 99.99% reliability, and they have figured out how NOT to kill the passengers in the exception cases.

Robotaxi, on the other hand, is "only" 99.9% reliable, and they can't gracefully handle exceptions. Hence all the reports of near-misses and near-death experiences by passengers.

That's not a situation that even a MAGA cultist like Bill would want to put himself in. And that's even if he still loved Elon.
