Gates backs away from JAVA

In fact Joe, since the article points out that 98% of desktops will have the MSFT proprietary product, we have a classic showdown shaping up here. Now MSFT says you gotta go with our proprietary approach if you want a piece of the market.

And guess what that leaves?

The distinct possibility that some company with a 100% JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE server, 60 million network customers, and a Netscape browser on the desktop, can offer an alternative platform to every developer that wants to reach the PC and corporate market. ANd guess whose platform will be faster.

It could be a big mistake for Pope Bill. You know what happened back in the Holy Roman Empire. Luther developed his product on a different platform.
