Frank,I was just reading 21st Century's web site, probably the most impressive system I have ever read about, wow! They are offering 110 channel cable TV,cable modem service, and telephone! And they have only passed 18,000 homes, but have 5,600 customers! The management team is super impressive,if not phenomenal, the best and brightest from the cable and media empires, including Milligan who at one time was a Disney exec. The only problem is that they should be up to 80,000 homes passed in downtown Chicago, they are at only 18,000,but expect to have 80,000 by year end,and all 310,000 homes by 2,000. This is by far the most state of the art system in the world. It is based on a similar system to ATHM with cache servers, but is not based on a tree and branch architecture, but a distributed ring system. HLIT is doing the optoelectronics, and it is a DWDM Metro system, analog TV broadcast from the headend, with narrowcast internet access at 1310 nm. I think NT is providing the telephone system, but am not sure on that one. Read the latest news from June 22,wow,THIS IS THE FUTURE!. 21stcentury.com
