When did you read the article? It was written February 7, 1999 (an update of a Friday Feb 5 article). The whole basis of the article was that the mis-steps all last week caused this.

I don't have one those future newspapers. I don't remember the dates but last fall these ideas were circulated---that maybe the DOJ ask for more than the Netscape browser inclusion or the removal of IE. This would be big waste of taxpayer dollars if that is all they were asking for. I admit I have not bothered to verify that this is what the DOJ had asked for in any actual filings (Maybe somone can confirm this). However, I remember MSFT insisted that any other allegations (for example Intel strong armings) is not relevant to the case. The judge overruled them on that however. I am sure that i read that DOJ may ask for more---I would appreciate if someone can confirm. If no one can confirm, maybe I do have one of those future newspapers <g>.

In any case, I don't mind if the stock stays around this price for a month or so. If this story helps it accomplish this---good. I think the revamping of the internet business is going to drive the stock forward---I don't mind that either. As long as the stock does not drop significantly (below 150 to 155), I am happy.
MY gut feeling says that mutual fund interest in MSFT is going to drive it up FAST!!!!(hopefully this move can just stall a little bit more)

BTW--the DOJ is my second best friend next to Microsoft. DOJ has been able to scare away some "smart" managers (you see them all the time on CNBC). Once these guys panic and sell their shares, the momentum investors (the ones that make a lot of money) jump on for the ride a month to 1 1/2 months before earnings.(this time the split announcement might complicate this move a little).
