Darrell, one thing I think is important to note when you look at the huge lead (and I personally think that it is > 1 year) that Japan and the UK have over the US, you have to note the much higher population concentration of both places.

This higher concentration makes it much easier from an economic standpoint to build out a broadband system vs the US, which for the most part is spread out. If you compared Japan and the UK to a place of comparable concentration in the US, say New England, I think the three places are very comparable.

When I think about the expansion of broadband to the parts of the US that don't currently have it (and there are a lot) I tend to think that you'll see people concentrate on economic efficiency a lot more, which to me means that the predominant form of broadband access in these areas will be wireless.
