Can't wait for Athlon 64 X2? Need a fix for your Smithfield envy on the desktop? Foxconn's new single Opteron CPU (DC ready) motherboard with dual 16x, 1 4x, and 2 1x PCIe slots has just what you need.

MB at CeBit 2005 show:

This is the first motherboard, in what I anticipate will be an deluge of such designs, to use both the Nvidia Pro 2200 and 2050 chips in a single cpu motherboard. The dual cpu Tyan K8WE also uses this configuration.

This motherboard will not only fulfill the needs of the enthusiast market but will provide a killer price/performance platform for entry level workstations and servers as well (using DC Opterons).

I'm anticipating that many manufacturers will try and hawk Smithfield systems as workstations and even entry level servers claiming a cost advantage to typical dual processor Opteron servers/workstations. Well all that changes with these single Opteron processor Nvidia based motherboards. True dual 16x PCIe as well as 4x PCIe and 2 1x PCIe, Intel can't touch this at any price point.

My next MB was going to be a Tyan K8WE but this MB has me seriously reconsidering since it will be significantly less money for equal or better performance (dual Opterons vs. a single DC Opteron).
