I think you're referring to the .CAB files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\ which when expanded contain Registry copies. Since a new copies are made at boot time, and given the legendary reliability of Windows, even the most recent copy could still be quite old. One can use System Information / Tools / Registry Checker to make a fresh copy. Trouble is, Windows accept a Registry as valid when it isn't. The Registry may be acceptable to Windows, but still cause things to happen that users find unacceptable. Imagine black text on a black background: Windows wouldn't notice anything wrong, but I'm sure humans would. Cheers, PW.
