Military mechanics do not automatically qualify for FAA mechanic certification.

FAA licensed mechanics are trained in areas that military mechanics are not, so the military guys have to go back to the classroom for a certain number of hours, depending on what they didn't get in their military training.

Then they have to pass written and practical tests in those areas.
