Thanks for the good commentary Marcher.

I have not listened to the piece you mentioned and also to what Gersh posted. I will when I get a clear block of time. When I listen I simply listen and do nothing else. An old habit.

I don't want to take up a Gold board's bandwidth by talking about unimportant things :) ...... but I have a habit ---- I did not know this as a thing, it was always there --- of separating the poetry and the music; probably because I like poetry as much as music. They kick you off into different dimensions.

So ..... his poetry was always excellent, but the music (to me) was usually missing something. With Cohen, they are both always there and I can bounce from one to the other without feeling any sense of loss.

I think this is why I like music that many people don't like. And I am not so fond of things that many people go crazy about.

Beauty is a personal thing. I had a cat who had a tragic life before I got her .... a long story. She used to vomit a lot and so, of course, I called her Vomity. :) My wife, who lives and works in Florida and comes to check on me every so often, is not too particular about English words she does not know well ..... and would stick her head out the front door and yell "Vomity! Vomity!" whenever she wanted the cat to come indoors.

I'll bet the people across the street think I have a vocal nurse and really serious digestive issues. :)

My point is that, despite all her travails, I felt that cat (a talkative Russian blue) to be the most beautiful animal I knew. For so many reasons. Poetry and music are like that ..... you have to feel them.
