I don't agree with disowning. I saw too much of that when a son or daughter came out gay. The parents disowned... I find this cruel and unusual punishment. I think Tough love has a place. The latter as you suggest is going too far. Children need unconditional love but boundaries and parents who don't preach do what I say but then who set who another example. In many homes parents drank to excess and then got upset when their kids did or smoked pot. What's good for the goose has to be good for the gander. Notice that I am full of colloquialisms.. I come from Pa. Dutch Country.
