seriously if Carter's mission will be looked upon as a mistake. There were different times then; besides Carter just did what he was asked. Because he couldn't negotiate a better deal isn't necessarily Carter's fault.

Well, the media has not been willing to hold Carter accountable for *any* of his actions, so you may be correct; but I'm unwilling to give him a pass. He IS an awfully nice guy, and certainly a Democrat of true integrity. But even after 4 years as president and 20 as ex-president he continues to be totally naive in his understanding of foreign policy.

If Democrats learn nothing else, they need to learn that weakness is not a good characteristic for a president to have, and it leads to MORE human suffering, NOT LESS.

It is necessary to keep in mind that Carter won the election on an anti-nuclear proliferation platform, yet it took the strength of Ronald Reagan to bring about the end of the Cold War.
