I think the housing start figures are an abberation due to the unfavorable weather in the midwest, where I presume that construction was put on hold during the entire catastrophic period. For the
housing starts ex-midwest (rest of the country), my guess would be that they were flat to slightly higher.
The back up in mortgage rates shouldnt have a noticeable effect on the
housing start number yet - after all, what's another 25 basis points to Mr. & Mrs. John Q Taxpayer when they have millions in their 401Ks
and are long AOL and Priceline!
