Of course. the solution is to ban knives, not the people wielding them on trains. The UK government seems to believe that if everyone is dumbed down to the level of a small child, the entire country will be easier to control. Like all Liberal policies, this one appears to be backfiring spectacularly.
The UK government has banned "zombie-style" knives and machetes and has other measures in place, such as stricter online sales regulations and increased penalties for selling knives to minors. There is no single, sweeping BBC ban on all knives, though discussions about potential bans on other types of knives or knife licensing are ongoing.
Bans and laws- Zombie knives and machetes: Possession of these weapons, defined as having a blade longer than eight inches (20cm), is illegal in England and Wales since September 2024.
- Offensive Weapons Act: The new legislation closed loopholes that allowed many of these weapons to be sold legally.
- Surrender program: Before the law took effect, a program allowed people to surrender banned weapons to police without prosecution.
Other measures- Online sales: The government is reviewing how knives are sold online, with plans for stronger age and identity verification checks for both online and in-person sales.
- Increased penalties: There are increased prison sentences for those convicted of selling knives to underage individuals.
- Possession with violent intent: A new offense has been created for illegally possessing a weapon with the intent to cause violence, regardless of the weapon's legality.
Ongoing discussions- Other knife types: Some groups, like the Church of England, judges, and doctors, have supported banning other types of knives, particularly pointed kitchen knives.
- Licensing: The possibility of a licensing scheme for certain knives has also been discussed.
