Recent trends indicate solar will reach grid parity (without subsidies) in Italy by 2013-2014, and gradually in the rest of Europe by 2020.

That would be a great thing - especially if it included the cost of providing solar power at night (eg - batteries). Forgive me if I am skeptical - but I am open to the possibility. It strikes me as a a classic engineering problem where everything depends on where one draws the boundary limit around the system being studied. I must also note that if such was achieved we would no longer have to worry about the possibility of campaign funds
buying subsidies for imaginary corporations as the money would readily flow to such profitable enterprises.
