Have you ever been to China Yaacov? Is their Chinese food like western Chinese food? Do they have kebab? ""

Thank you for your post. Actually I love Chinese food. I travelled with a small group to China for a 21 days trip highlight of which were the last stop in Beijing, eating the Mandarin cooking. I had eaten Mandarin cooking from Mukdan to Urumchi and even some humble Cultural Revolution-syle throw backs, but the true Mandarin cooking was in Peking! The three best resturants I like to recommand are:

Quianmen Quanjude. There speciality is Peking Duck. Going to Peking and not eating Peking Duck is like going to Marrakesh and not eating the coud-cous, or going to Athens and not leting yourself getting food poisned by the Donnar Kebab! The resturant is in Tiananmen Square, they serve the Peking duck in clasical fashion with scallions and hoisin suace.

Li Family Resturant where you can eat the house specialities
Shark fin, turtle or bird's nest soup and then eat boiled celery witht he sesame oil and rice and vinegar and then deep-fried scallops, pork nuggets sautéed with and darkened
with soy sauce, , sweet and sour mandain fish....shall I go on?

-Sichuan Fandian where Deng Xiaoping used to eat! It was real classy, and the specialty was Sicuan cuisine!

Kebab? God forbid. I saw some non-Han looking Chinese probably Tadjiks from Kashi(Kashgar) or Ugurs selling Kebabs in the open! I asked them what do you do with the donar if you don't sell it befroe the night! They didn't answer! I said to myself same as in Athens! GGGG

Remember never order foreign beer or wine. Imported wine went from 150 to 800 US Dollars! Stick with Chines local beer that tastes great. Don't grapes or any kind of fuits that you can not peel yourself, and take pakets of alcohol swabs and use them to dis-infect the chop sticks and rims of cups! I have had terrible stomach disorder from eating in Cairo, Istanbul, Baku, and Athens so I don't take chances! I am sure Georege being in Kebab business can give you some advice of his own!

Kind regards

Yaacov

p.s. Both Sven Hedin and Sir. Aurel Stein in their diggins in Takla-Makan desert had noticed a great Greek influence in Pre-Islamic Art and Architecture. I don't know Ugurs eating Kebab has anything to do with this
but it is possible some Kebab eaters (!!)did travel that far east and ruined these simple poeople! GGG
