I agree, some of these "solutions" are way into the rhelm of science fiction. Anti-gravity, perhaps someday, but not anyday soon.

But, there has been some real research into speeding up the half life of radioactive isotopes and changing them into other non-radioactive elements (aka transmutation). This is still controversal in mainstream scientific circles. But, it's not theorhetically imposible. In fact, mainstream science recognizes that transmutation can and does occur in high energy particle accelerators. The mainstream just doesn't buy into the premise that transmutation can occur in lower energy states. But, from what I've read there have been some real experimental efforts to do just that with radioactive waste. In fact, there are a couple of small technology companies that exist just for this reason, to use transmutation to neutralize radioactive waste.
