It is very difficult to make good ATM switch. This is why LU paid big money for ASND. Why LU did not buy JNPR at 200 when was 100. They would pay less then for ASDN. Instead like NN they sold their 4% position. Many so call Tbit routers claim big speed, but what they are talking about is only scalability. The fastest so far is M-40(40 gig) from JNPR(router), ATM switch,after test is completed it will be NN 50gig. IP is a good food for IPO and lots of sturtup are going after this. BTW, NN ATM revenue gained 70% year over year. ASND/LU claimed near 100%. So Doug not growing? Ask more sophisticated question?,( and again the same argument I gave you many times and you are coming back again with doubts about ATM) Why big guys like SBC based Pronto project (6 billions) on ATM architecture. Why SBC did not take all IP architecture from JNPR or CSCO!!! Why BT is going (read BT white papers on they home page) big way with ATM architecture? Why BT and SBC are not buying great routers from JNPR, only all IP guys who do not count on providing QoS anytime soon. There are many of them and this is quite big market to fight for. Now you see CSCO and JNPR mainly in this space. Ask another question: why most of big corporate network are build based on IP over ATM. I have gave you several press releases in the past, and I am not going to search for them again Doug in the real world you will have many different type of networks. New carrier are very noisy about IP (in most cases they are building IP/ATM and call it IP see IXC Comm) b/c this rise they stock price and allow financing.All of them are loosing money. Big guys on the other hand, are building strong profitable business case more quietly. Zbyslaw
