I have been wanting to get the Young Folk Portfolio down to 30 holdings, in doing so it allows me to build positions of size as opposed to holding 60 or 80 tiny positions. Today I got this portfolio down to 30 holdings.

When I was in the financial service industry and had my Series 6 license, I used to get monthly reports on every mutual fund out there at the time with their performance records and the one sector of the fund arena that stood out performance wise over the others were the Focus Funds.

A focused fund is a mutual fund that holds a only relatively small variety of stocks or bonds that are similar along some dimension. By definition, a focused mutual fund focuses on a limited number stocks in a limited number of sectors, rather than holding a broad or diversified mix of positions. Focused funds tend to hold positions in roughly 20-30 companies or less, unlike many funds which hold positions in well more than 100 companies.

If you wish to add a new company within a Focus Fund you have to sell a position so whatever it is you want to add, it has to be better than something you already own. If you do sell a position, you go all in on the new position, none of this easing in and seeing how it does. So again, it forces you to be more selective as to who you buy and who you sell.

Today I sold the following:

ESS .. VICI .. MAA .. PLD .. KR .. EXR .. O.

I took the proceeds from those sales and added to the following:

SPY $10k .. SMH $5k .. then $2-$3k in TSCO .. CAT .. DHI .. APD .. SPGI .. SHW .. CTAS .. COST .. PH .. LLY.

I will do an update later today on the Young Folk Portfolio to show where it now stands.
