Republicans have pounced on the FBI’s decision to further investigate newly discovered emails that could be linked to an early inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. But few have gone so far as Drew Ferguson, the GOP nominee for an open U.S. House seat. The former West Point mayor, the overwhelming favorite to win the conservative-leaning 3rd District in November , launched a petition Friday urging President Barack Obama “not to pardon Hillary Clinton no matter who wins the White House.” “In spite of her many millions, Hillary Clinton should be treated the same as you or I would be – if we were under investigation by the FBI,” Ferguson said in a note to supporters. “She should NOT receive special consideration from the Department of Justice or from President Obama.”
Donald Trump and his supporters hope the FBI Director James Comey’s letter informing Congress that agents would review a new trove of emails to determine if they improperly contained classified information give his struggling campaign a new lifeline. “This is very, very significant,” former U.S. Rep. Kingston told the AJC. “The public information out there already raises questions. Whatever new information has emerged has got to go far beyond that. This has got to be big.” But other operatives from both sides of the aisle are skeptical that this latest revelation can change the outcome of the race.
