I don't think LSI will ever merge with VLSI for one reason - AL Stein. VLSI is his baby, he'll see in go down in flames before he'll merge.

We can all dream out the merge - VLSI's cash to pay off Symbios, fill Gresham, layoff off half the overhead at VLSI, par back overlapping R&D etc. etc.
