The critical technology I was referring to was modem technology in general not x2. I don't think it would have been smart for Ascend to make itself dependent on a competitor that way. USR had the client side and was trying to use it to gain market share on the RAS side, and Ascend rightly countered that move. The jury is still out on x2 vs. K56.
