Oh sure. Spinal weapons in 4x games are a thing because of that anime.

The Yamato is instructive in several ways. On paper it could go toe to toe with anything that existed. But in reality, well it couldn't. Even if it had somehow stumbled across an Iowa class, each by its little lonesome without a battlegroup, it probably would have come out the worst. Only a lucky shot could have saved its hide. The analog fire control system of the Iowas was far superior to what the Japanese had. Not to mention, radar vs. optical systems meant the Iowas got far better information than the Yamato. Being faster, an Iowa could also dictate the engagement. Luck is always a factor, but you don't want it to be the only key to survival.

But it wasn't an Iowa that did the Yamato in. Air power did.

Authoritarians love wonder weapons. It fits their self-image of being all powerful and dominating. Like the 18th level fighter wiping out a whole hoard of goblins without a scratch. But then you wake up...
