Post says Star Data head now keen on alliances

The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that Star Data Systems has watched its stock plummet more than 50 per cent since calling off the hunt for a suitor a week ago. Reporter Ian Karleff says, however, that the company's management is shrugging off the slump because it is now free to pursue alliances. Star Data chief executive Alan Hutton says he sees tremendous opportunities for alliances. He says that "as operators, we are delighted to be masters of our own destiny." Star Data's stock hit a 52-week intraday low of $2.85 on Thursday, before closing down 55 cents at $3.30, about 60 per cent lower than the 52-week high of $8.55. Mr. Hutton believes that shareholder value would be restored by having management focus on building the business. He says the stock's current valuation is the result of the departure of holders who were not investing in the business fundamentals, but only in the potential of a takeover.
