I am conflicted on this issue no doubt. Sometimes when i post i am in the process of formulating ideas. I think Abbas took a tough stand with Hamas yesterday and if there is no give on their part, Abbas who is president may just dissolve parliament and call for new elections. Another scenario is that Hamas will concentrate strictly on domestic policy while continuing the truce and allowing Abbas to operate on FP. In that case it may be useful for israel and the US not to force Palestine into the hands of Iran. The policymakers in washington and israel need to be real sharp.
On another note, i heard on one of the sunday talk shows that Al Baredi is the hawk on iran and is truly fearful of what a nuclear iran might do. He is apparently cozing up to bush knowing that the US may be the only credible thing standing between us and the abyss. mike
