Yes, Intel's well documented motherboard and chipset problems - with recalls of mth boards having run in the hundreds of thousands to millions - may have driven SUN to rock solid Athlon MP platform.

More ancient than above.

Any company that develops that many products will screw one up once in a while, but I think Intel has been doing much better lately. Did the Athlon MP (2001) stability problems ever get a satisfactory solution? My point is that I wonder if Sun dares to put out a server family on AMD just because of the reputation, deserved or not, that AMD has. it takes a long long time to turn a rep around. I hope Sun uses AMD in that server.
