OT: Jeff I do remember the Morgan Hill Quake. But first I have to tell you one of my kids said to me today "dad this is earthquake weather", both the Morgan Hill & the Loma Prieta quakes were on days like today, we stay outside the house for two days after the Loma Prieta quake...slept on the patio...it saved us from having to jump up and run outside every time we heard or felt an after shock, this way we would just stay put and ride it out. My biggest problem was sharing the matress with the wife, 3 kids and two dogs...every time the ground moved I had all their heads smashing down on my chest.
The big problem with quakes is you don't know if...it was the quake and everything that follows is an after shock...or if IT is a fore shock...and the big one is yet to come! <G>
Okay Morgan Hill Quake: I was on the coast between Watsonville & Moss Landing just south of the Dunes Colany(sp) adding a Patio room to a house and had just sent someone to the lumber yard, I walked out to my truck parked in the street to get something when the truck started shaking...well I knew that SOB was up at the front bumper screwing with my head, SO I ran around the right side of the truck but missed him, so I ran around the other way to cut him off...at that moment I noticed these people running out of their houses, so I came to attention quik figuring I been caught chasing an employee. Well as I came to a stop I noticed things were moving and I looked up at the power lines overhead which were whipping around like mad, I turned and ran across the street to an open field (safe place in a quake) where shortly I was joined by the rest of the people in the neigborhood. Later my employee said while he was driving to the lumber yard it felt like he had a flat tire, and didn't know there had been a quake until he'd reach the yard. |
