If you're going to hem and haw over why this that or the other is screwed up I think you'll find that the unintended consequences of government policies are the root cause for a lot of problems.

Not that they weren't well intentioned or even reasonable when instituted, some of them were.

Not that government doesn't have a role in some limited circumstances.

Not that everything would be 'perfect' with fewer government policies. Life is tough sometimes. If the price of a functioning market economy, with its obvious benefits to all, is winners and losers, so be it. There are winners and losers with big government just as surely. I would rather the market made that choice not a politician.

And not that eliminating a lot of government programs would return one to the pre-regulation problem. That mess is probably gone. The current mess is the waves caused by the government interference, and even a completely unfettered market would start from here and take a long time to dampen those waves.

Get rid of employer provided health insurance. Whatever it's costing the employer, put the $'s directly on the check. Universal major medical. Everybody buys the services of whatever health care provider they want, just like they buy EVERYTHING ELSE.

You like the security of insurance? Buy it.
Cash, check or credit otherwise.
Chickens or clean your house for a year (barter), whatever works for the involved parties.

I find the idea that the answer to a problem caused by government meddling is more government ludicrous, as a general thesis.
