Wade, they are not working on boiler scale buildup on these vessels, but in cleaning of the vacuum operated drain systems. These drain lines have to be periodically cleaned as a regular maintenance procedure so it is a recurring dollar as far as HERC is concerned.
They also do not have to face competition because of their patent protection.

As for cleaning city water systems, they are the ONLY chemical cleaning system that is NSF Certified. No, these systems cannot simply be cleaned with a weak acid solution as it is extremely corrosive. Many of the city water systems are old and have little wall thickness left of the original piping and any corrosive type cleaning cannot be accomplished without damage to the system. HERC also uses their non-corrosive products to clean fire sprinkler systems. That is a huge untapped market in this country. Once the systems are filled with water they are left in a stagnant condition for years. Corrosion begins and tuberculation starts because of bacteria. These bacteria live within the tubers and cannot be reached by chemical treatment unless the tubers are dissolved first. I could explain the entire process, but it would take quite some time. If you desire some reference material try www.nace.org That is the National Assoc of Corrosion Engineers site, information on the problem is available there.
