"Don't get stuck without
it……….Globalstar satellite phone. "

A new testimonial at Globalstar Canada

globalstar.ca

" I am writing in connection to the use of a Globalstar satellite telephone on my
recent expedition Labrador 2000.

As you know, we were unfortunately unable to complete the planed route
across Labrador and Quebec up to Ungava Bay. A combination of river
conditions and physical injury meant that we were unable to continue and
unable to return, finding ourselves effectively 'stuck' in one of the most remote
parts of eastern Canada. This was a situation which was not improved by the
existence of over seventy forest fires in the area. It was in these circumstances
that we found the Globalstar satellite phone to be invaluable. Not only were we
able to make that emergency call for help, but were also able to give detailed
information regarding our location, supplies and condition, including the areas
suitability for landing a helicopter. The fact that we had a telephone, rather than
simply some kind of emergency locator beacon meant that not only were we
able to pass on vital information to our rescuers, but that they were able to warn
us of the fires and maintain a channel of communication during the thirty hours
before we were picked up. In short, the phone saved our lives. Aside from being
indispensable in our rescue, the Globalstar phone played an important role
during the expedition. Regular calls to the home base with our map
co-ordinates meant that not only did both the team and those at home have
some peace of mind, but also that it provided an effective emergency back up
system. Should we have had an accident which prevented us from making an
emergency call, our failure to 'check in' would have raised the alarm and we
would never have been more than a few kilometres from our last know position.
The kind of peace of mind engendered by communications equipment cannot
be too highly emphasized with regard to a trip of this nature - both to the home
team and to those actually on the trip. The phone also allowed us to receive
messages from around the world, update our web site and maintain the kind of
publicity levels desired by our sponsors through easy and constant contact with
the media. I wouldn't hesitate to say that the satellite phone in use on the
Labrador 2000 expedition was both a vital and ultimately life saving piece of
equipment and is something I would not consider venturing into the wilderness
without in the future.

Yours sincerely
