Is funding for silicon competitors Veridicom and Authentec long term good news or bad news?

It sounds like bad news for competitors to get major infusions of cash, but that could be wrong. Consider that IDX's strategy is based on sensor costs dropping toward zero and IDX supplying the software. It's unlikely that in the long term an optical reader can be as cheap as a silicon reader, just based on the manufacturing processes.

So long as it takes Veridicom and Authentec two or three years to get below the IDX price, and gives IDX the opportunity to create a de facto software standard . . . we want these vendors to hang around to license the software and sell scanners. If they went out of business, there's a greater chance that universal hardware deployment won't occur. We just don't want them to be able to undersell IDX hardware for the time being.

By the way, I called the DLSC collapse. I just didn't put my money where my mouth was. Good short, Hockeyfan!
