modem trouble-

I'm having trouble upgrading the modem in an old box (pentium pro 200). It had a us robotics 28k isa and I replaced it with a modemblaster 56k isa. Windows 98 recognizes the modem but reports a conflict under the device manager... when looking at the resources tab for the modem I get the following conflict report associated with 3rd line input/output 0FF0 - 0FF7. The conflict reads as follows:

Input/Output Range 0FF0 - 0FF7 used by:
Alias of Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
Input/Output Range 0FF0 - 0FF7 used by:
Alias of Communications Port (COM3)
-----------------------------------------------------

I don't have much stuff running on the machine... 4 pci and 4 isa slots with a video card in pci1, a sounblaster32 in isa3 and the modem in isa4. This is the same configuration that worked before with the 28k. My first idea was to switch around the order of the isa cards and although I haven't tried every possible combination, the 3 that I have tried haven't worked.

My second idea was to turn off the automatic settings for the modem resources and play around with different basic configurations but, none of them were conflict free.

My last idea was to try and disable the com ports or reallocate irq's in the bios (modem uses irq 10) but, my bios will not let me make such modifications (original bios, I believe).

I haven't called creative tech support but will if I cannot figure this out in the next day. I just wanted to bounce it off this thread first since I have a rich history of talking to tech support guys that make mountains out of mole hills. -g- Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.
