Redback Networks and AsiaInfo Form Strategic Alliance in China
BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2000--Redback Networks (Nasdaq:RBAK - news), a leading provider of advanced networking, and AsiaInfo (Nasdaq:ASIA - news), a leading provider of Internet infrastructure, total solutions and software in China, today announced a strategic alliance agreement that will speed and simplify the rollout of broadband services throughout China.
As part of the alliance, Redback will integrate its Subscriber Management System (SMS) with AsiaInfo's customer management and billing software, AsiaInfo Online Billing System (AIOBS). Together these products will offer carriers, ISPs and cable operators in China a comprehensive solution to acquire and manage thousands of broadband subscribers, and speed up broadband providers' ability to roll out and test new services for consumers.
For end users, the integrated solution will enable them to select and sign up for new services online more quickly and cost-effectively than before. They will also be able to select from a variety of pricing plans based on their individual needs.
``China is one of the fastest growing broadband markets in the world,'' said Steve Young, vice president of Asia Pacific Operations at Redback Networks. ``By working with AsiaInfo, a company that has been at the forefront of telecom innovations in China for over five years, I am confident that we can help to accelerate the adoption of broadband services across the country.''
``Redback Networks has established itself as a leader in the broadband subscriber management systems market,'' said Michael Zhao, Chief Strategy Officer at AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. ``Through our joint efforts we will offer the leading broadband management solution to service providers in China's rapidly growing broadband market.''
About the Solution
AsiaInfo's AIOBS is the leading customer management and billing (CM&B) software in China, and has three areas of focus: Internet, IP telephony and wireless telephony. This real-time, highly flexible and scalable CM&B software supports millions of dialup users and provides bundled services such as dial-up, Email, VPN, VPDN, DSL and leased line management services.
Redback's SMS products enable service providers to connect and manage large numbers of subscribers using any of the major high-speed access technologies, such as DSL, cable and wireless. Redback's SMS products will enable carriers, ISPs and cable operators in China to acquire and manage thousands of broadband subscribers without having to rebuild their existing network infrastructures. This will dramatically improve time-to-market and offer service differentiation. Prior to the establishment of Redback in 1996, there was no integrated solution to the management of high-speed IP traffic. In China, the Redback SMS products are already in operation in six provinces. |
