So, you haven't had any news ? That must be really a wierd feeling, kind of rip van winkle-like. You missed a lot of moaning and whining in the other Oakt thread by the class-actioners. A bought a couple pieces just before it popped, but got nervous with no follow-through and bailed again. OAKT is pretty iffy yet.
There's a large camp of followers to the theme that the dow is way too high and all the good times are about over and look out below, etc.
There's a lot of speculation that the PC industry is falling on hard times, that price competition will drive down the box makers profits, you can see some of that already in MUEI GATE DELL and CPQ, as the Japanese advance on this arena. There's been a major thrust against MSFT by ORCL and now SUNW in the area of Networked Computers, pretty much a re-make of the old computer timeshare Octopus design under the guise of Network Computing appliance in your home, like a telephone, but the guts of the thing in a central Internet Service Provider (ISP) shop. There's been a lot of speculation about DVD drives being the death of CDs and now CDs with write capability being the death of Iomega's ZIP drive.
The DOW busted through 6000 with significant fanfare, but I don't think doomsday is around the corner. My guess is a drawn out flirtation at the level a few hundred down and up then a climbing to significantly higher. The Shorters are betting on a recession coming and thats been the sense more commonly East of the Mississippi, I think. Intel is pushing its MMX efforts to "influence" graphical aspects of PCs, and most of the Semis recovered nicely from the July tech wreck, some like ALTR doubling between July and Oct (100% in three months not shabby at all). But all the tech stocks have been beaten down for the last two weeks. Could be mutual funds are clearing the inventory out in front of their 10/31 reporting period. Lots of bargains seem to be developing. One of my favorites SEEQ almost died yesterday, day after announcing earnings up 200% but the forward looking management statements included "D" words, like decline and downward, etc.
So its an interesting time to have surfaced. I voted already as my precinct is too small to have a balloting location. But thats a key timing point in my stock buying tactics. I'm thinking Tuesday would be a great day to be buying. Uncertainty is such a bear on pricing.
Whew! Didn't know I knew this much...
