Netscape veered off course after nav3 release. They have (still have) a great marketing opportunity. The N brand has this installed base of x millions. They can promote themselves cheap thru the web vs cosly magazine and tv ad expenses. What does the ex apple guy Homer do with this leverage? Very little to enhance the mission.Meanwhile msft does some decent work at catch-up.In other words ,would a Steve Case have blown the early lead that Netscape enjoyed over msft? Netscape needs a Steve Case type exec. up to the opportunity still available-- the leverage of the giant installed base. Effective ,grass roots promo-bus posters, sports logo/partnering for example --basic brand building any competent marketing master practices. The Board at nscp needs to make personnel changes quickly- in dog years for a change.Jim Clark is a brilliant startup/concept guy, not a leader.Barksdale is a suit and tassled loafer front guy.Homer's marketing results speak for themselves.JMHO ;-)http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/digest/biz1.htm
